Interviewing is an extremely important part of seeking jobs, applying for a job, and getting your desired job. It is also a skill that can be taught/learned that demands both professional guidance and practice. Yes, you need to practice interviewing to become successful at it.
Common talent acquisition processes (hiring processes) include common stages. These stages usually include the submission of your application, an in-person or remotely conducted interview (via Zoom, Teams, Skype etc.), additional visits (most-likely in-person), and the decision-making of the employer’s behalf. Other stages may apply depending on the employer’s policies and procedure. For example – employers that deal with classified information may include a stage of security clearance or training to be ultimately accepted to work. In some cases, you may be paid for the process or reimbursed for expenses.
With the progression of the entire process, the number of candidates that progress to the next stage commonly decreases and the level of scrutiny increases. The initial stage of addressing a candidate’s resume/CV is relatively superficial, since the person is not there to interact in-person. Thus, it is important to have an excellent resume/CV (use link to visit a professional article on this topic).
Since a first impression is indeed hard to change when gone wrong, and often the process does not allow a second-chance, performing well during your job interview is crucial for the entire job application process. In other words, it is usually a “make or break” moment with implications for the last stages as well. When done with excellence, the interview makes it easier to convince the employer that you are the right person for the job.

A successful interview starts much before the interview itself, and continues after the interview has ended, in order to tie-in to the next stage and keep yourself in the recruiter’s mind going forward. Thus, it would make sense that this series of articles dedicated to successfully interviewing for a job be further divided into three more articles – before the interview, during the interview, and after the interview.
